It’s easy for workers to become distracted during their daily tasks and fail to hydrate — and that’s bad for the company and bad for employees.

What Stops Employees from Hydrating?

Employees are hard at work. Employees may be hard at work and not want to leave their desk to get water. This is made even more difficult if the water is farther away — or if it’s difficult for them to take large quantities of water back to their desk.

Employees don’t like the office water. If the office water doesn’t taste good — or comes in strange-tasting small paper cups — the employees are going to be discouraged from drinking it. Instead they may just wait until their lunch break.

Employees are drinking caffeine. Hard-working employees often load up on coffee or tea, and consequently consume a lot of caffeine. Caffeine makes dehydration worse. Employees need to alternate their caffeinated beverages with water.

Starting a Workplace-Wide Campaign

Position healthy water sources around the office. Healthier water tastes better — and employees will be more encouraged to drink it.

Have employees count. Give out employee water charts so employees can more easily track the water that they drink throughout the day.

Give out water bottles. Let employees fill their water bottles at water sources, so they can keep healthy, clean water by their desk.

Providing the best water to your employees or colleagues is the easiest way to get them to start drinking.
